From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On scene investigation included interview of PIC and review of accident scene. Issued pilot compliance philosophy brochure with pilot's bill of rights prior to interview. Pilot stated he departed kgky after doing several touch and goes and flew south over his house and then west past another friends house. Returning to kgky the PIC stated that he was issued traffic and was trying to slow the airplane, so he decided to put the landing gear down to help slow the airplane. He did not see any green gear lights. He exited the pattern and tried following the emergency gear extension checklist without success. He stated that he was in contact with the tower and they had a person they used to try to determine why the gear was not extending. He also stated that he phoned a mechanic from the airplane to try to find resolution to the problem. Ultimately the PIC landed the airplane gear up on centerline only causing minor damage to the bottom of the airplane.

Review of pilot records show PIC was current and qualified to operate the aircraft. Review of maintenance records show aircraft was in compliance with inspection requirements. Consulted with NTSB and this was determined to be an incident based on the damage noted. Aircraft was released to the privacy data omitted. Cause of system failure undetermined. This report will be amended once a determination has been made for the cause of the gear system failure.
