From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft with CFI and student pilot departed kpoc at 14:15L on 02/23/2025 for the local practice area to practice private pilot maneuvers. The aircraft returned to kpoc and performed two non-eventful full stop/taxi back landings. On the third, the aircraft received permission from ATC for a short delay on 26L to perform a short field takeoff maneuver. The student, on instruction from the CFI held the brakes and applied full power, releasing once full power was determined. The CFI noted that the left wheel began rotating, but the right experienced a delay of movement, before a second later breaking off and collapsing. The right wing tip and right horizontal stabilizer made contact with the ground, causing it to crumple.

The student and CFI shut down the aircraft and were able to exit.
