From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 02/28/2025 at approximately 10:40 am local, a Cessna 182L aircraft, operated by the privacy data omitted and pilot in command (PIC), sustained damage to the right wingtip fairing, nose landing gear fairing, and engine propeller after landing touch down at the Hartford Brainard airport (khfd) in Connecticut. During a telephone interview with the PIC on 04/07/2025, at 09:04 am local, he stated that at the time of the incident on 02/28/2025 there was one passenger onboard the aircraft. The PIC stated that the aircraft annual maintenance inspection was accomplished on 02/20/2025 by privacy data omitted aircraft maintenance. The PIC stated he was performing an operational check flight (ocf) from khfd to khfd on 02/28/2025 to check the operation of the fuel tank vent system. The PIC stated that on the return approach landing phase of flight, just before touchdown and while executing a crosswind correction, a gust of wind struck the left side of the aircraft causing the right wingtip fairing and engine propeller to contact the runway pavement. The PIC was able to maintain control of the aircraft after touchdown and was able to continue to taxi off the runway. The aircraft is currently still in maintenance, return to service is pending.
