From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

CFI and student noticed two geese crossing their flight path and in short range approximately 30 feet above ground level over threshold of runway 30 at San Carlos Airport. CFI pitched aircraft upward citing training that birds normally dive when trying to escape. One of the two geese impacted lower cowling on left side and left main landing gear leg fairing. CFI immediately returned to normal landing attitude and landed on runway 30. Aircraft in landing pattern behind them went around. Airport operations personnel removed dead goose from runway area. Aircraft taxiied to parking at San Carlos flight center under its own power and was inspected. Shallow dent in engine cowl was repaired. The landing gear leg fairing was replaced. The aircraft was returned to service.
