From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The owner/operator departed home airport (X04) and became disoriented and unable to navigate back to X04. He eventually found palatka municipal airport (28J) and landed to refuel and reorient. Upon departing 28J for X04 he became disoriented flying for approximately 1 hour and 53 minutes trying to find the airfield. He was attempting to land on a road due to being low on fuel. He unknowingly flew 600' west of runway 36 at kocf (Ocala International Airport) and attempted to land on a perimeter road approximately 1500' west of the kocf runway. The aircraft touched down hard on the nose wheel causing it to collapse and the aircraft skidded to a stop in the sod approximately 278' south of the initial impact. The pilot (sole occupant) was transported to the local hospital with serious injuries.
