From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

privacy data omitted. The APU bleed was deferred on this aircraft, and an external air start was accomplished on engine 2. After the engine was started, all external power and air was removed from the aircraft, and permission was obtained from ramp to push back onto spot 2, the brakes were released, and the ground crew was informed they were cleared to push to spot 2. The push proceded normally until the aircraft was aligned on the taxi line, when a loud grinding noise was heard and they felt the aircraft shudder. The tug operator called

“Brakes, brakes, brakes”, and the crew immediately applied the parking brake. The crew was informed that the tow bar shear pin had snapped and the tug had impacted the aircraft. A tech ops member came on the headset and informed the crew of what had happened. The crew passed the nose gear safety pin out the window and the ground crew pinned the nose gear, removed the tug from under the aircraft, and towed the aircraft back into gate 506. The passengers were deplaned and the crew shut down the aircraft.
