From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Thursday, may 22, 2025 at approximately 3:47AM local time, a Cessna citation S550 crashed while on approach to San Diego Montgomery field (kmyf). The aircraft crashed in a residential neighborhood, seriously damaging multiple homes and vehicles. The aircraft was operating under a part 91 flight and had departed from teterboro on may 21 at 11:15PM EST with an intermediate stop in wichita. It departed wichita at 2:36AM CDT. The total number of persons on board was 6., but the filed IFR flight plan lists a planned passenger count of 5. First responders have confirmed no ground fatalities.

The aircraft involved is a Cessna S550 “citation ii/s”, manufactured in 1985.

The aircraft checked in with socal TRACON and requested the RNAV 28R approach into Montgomery field. The controller issued knkx (marine corp air station miramar) hourly weather observation to the pilot. The aircraft was then cleared for the RNAV 28R approach and was transferred to the Montgomery field common traffic advisory frequency (CTAF) approximately 1.5 miles before the nesty waypoint. No distress calls or further communications were received. The kmyf automated surface observation system (ASOS) was not operational at the time of the accident. The knks weather was reported as:

METAR knkx 220955Z 00000KT 1/2SM VV002 15/14 A2990

METAR knkx 221055Z 00000KT 1/2SM VV002 14/14 A2989

The aircraft then struck electrical hi-tension wires before losing control and striking a light pole and impacting a residential street. All occupants of the aircraft were fatally injured. The accident is still under investigation.

As the FAA filed it
