From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 17, 2025, 1847Z / 1347 CDT at Lawrence j. Timmerman airport (kmwc), WI an American legend AL18 “super legend cub” operated by the solo occupant, who is not the aircraft owner, taxing 220 degree heading on taxiway c for VFR departure to runway 33R tipped forward damaging the propeller, propeller spinner, and cowl; this occurred while braking to turn left onto taxiway b. before the planned local flight with the incident aircraft, the pilot utilized foreflight to review the weather. The pilot planned to fly to burlington municipal airport (kbuu), WI for fuel. He preflight the aircraft, noting fuel was half tanks, pushed the aircraft out of the hangar, started, and called for taxi. Taxing on a 220° heading on taxiway b, the pilot stated that he adjusted aileron and elevator correction as the winds were shifting around from a quartering headwind to a quartering tailwind. He also stated taxing on taxiway c, approached the intersection of taxiway b, he double checked winds for proper aileron correction, and that he also paid attention to the windsock, noting variable winds. Close to the intersection of c and b, the pilot stated he began to apply left rudder and touched the heel brakes, and that he applied brakes and clearly too aggressively, possibly at the same time have gotten a slight gust of tailwind; at which time the aircraft tail began to lift up resulting in the aircraft prop striking the ground.

No injuries reported. The airfield was closed at 1850Z / 1350CDT, aircraft towed off field at 1943Z / 1442 CDT and airfield reopened at 1954Z / 1454 CDT. The aircraft was never on any runway surface areas or runway safety areas. The historical aerodrome reports (METAR) at kmwc at the time bracketing the incident were METAR kmwc 171745Z 25012G16KT 10SM clr 29/19 A2978 & METAR 171955Z 28009G16KT 10SM clr 31/19 A2971. An airport video of the aircraft, captured during the time from taxi to the incident, shows the windsock facing southwest with movements from halfway to nearly full extensions.
