From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During takeoff and upon initial rotation, pilot was distracted by an unsecured item that shifted in the rear of the aircraft. When the pilot turned to look backwards the aircraft began settling towards the runway. Upon refocusing forward, the pilot attempted unsuccesfully to recover, from the settling. The landing gear was retracted and the aircraft belly contacted the runway. The aircraft bounced and then settled back onto the runway and slid on its belly. Pilot maintained the centerline, but as the aircraft slowed, it veered slightly right and leaned left, causing the left propeller to contact the runway. The aircraft came to a stop, and the pilot shut down the engines. Both the pilot and passenger exited safely.

As the FAA filed it
