What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On September 25, 2025, at appx 1730, the Cessna citationjet (CE-525) landed at Baton Rouge, LA airport (btr) runway 31 the right-hand (RH) main landing gear penetrated the RH wing. The pilot reported he had departed pensacola, FL (pns) and on climb-out he heard a ‘thud’ and observed a red RH gear unsafe light. The checklist stated to pull the circuit breaker (cb) and reset. Put the gear down. Pilot observed 3 green lights indicating all gear were down and locked. Checklist stated to leave the gear down, operate below 18000 feet and below 200 knots and land as soon as practical. Pilot continued to destination (btr). Pilot reported approach and touchdown were normal and uneventful. Pilot deployed speed brakes and spoilers which was normal and uneventful. Upon applying the brakes, pilot stated he felt the plane sink down and the aircraft started to veer off the runway. He was able to maintain control and get the plane stopped on the runway, he observed the landing gear protruding through the wing. Pilot stated this was the third flight since picking up the aircraft from san antonio, TX from a maintenance facility. The aircraft had been at the facility for a 48-month inspection, which the pilot reported was an extensive inspection.
On September 26, 2025, two FAA asi’s traveled to btr to assist the FAA iic and gather evidence for the accident investigation at 0930 CDT. Two technicians from the facility mobile service unit were on scene to access the damage. The lead technician told the FAA ASI that a bolt (p/n: AN3-42) that secures the aft trunnion pin (p/n: 7141021-5) was improperly installed, causing the RH MLG to punch through the RH wing. The mishap aircraft was at the maintenance facility in san antonio, TX (sat) for maintenance one week prior to the accident.
On September 29, 2025, FAA ASI conducted an aircraft logbook review with the following findings: the aircraft is maintained under the manufacturer’s approved MSG-3 inspection program;
08/30/2025 – Aircraft maintenance started at the facility under wo# 222155.
09/05/2025 – Removed RH MLG trunnion pins (forward & aft).
09/12/2025 – Replaced and installed RH MLG trunnion pins (forward & aft).
09/20/2025 – Aircraft maintenance ended at the facility.
09/21/2025 – Aircraft was returned to service by the facility (aftt: 1481.1 hours).
