From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Monday, October 13th, 2025, aircraft privacy data omitted, Cessna 172S, serial no. 172S10417, was conducting a training flight with a student on board. Aircraft departed from fort lauderdale executive airport (kfxe) at approximately 16:00 local time. While returning to kfxe and on approach at approximately 16:30 EST, at an altitude of about 1,000 feet MSL and approximately 4–5 nautical miles from the airport, the aircraft experienced a partial loss of engine power, and a total loss right after. Not able to make it back to the airport, pilot conducted an off-airport landing in the sidewalk adjacent to a coconut creek canal in north lauderdale.

During the landing sequence, the aircraft’s left wingtip contacted the post of the roof structure of a public bench or chair. Subsequently, the nose of the aircraft and left side of the horizontal stabilizer struck a pole located in the middle of the sidewalk. After ground contact, the main wheels touched down and heavy braking was applied to bring the aircraft to a complete stop.
