From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot contacted ozr controller after becoming disorented in weather and having engine overheating indications. The pilot then declared an emergency for smoke in the cockpit. Ozr attempted to vector the aircraft for an approach to 25J but lost radar and radio contact aproximately one half mile east of the airport. The aircraft decended into a wooded area and impacted trees, crushing the leading edges of both wings, the landing gear, and the propeller. The aircraft came to rest upright and the pilot exited the aircraft with minor injuries.
