From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft impacted the water / marsh near Beaufort, SC.

Departed kcpk at 1:45PM EST. Departed for an intended landing at kzph. About 2.5 hours into the flight, at approximately 4:20PM, and 1500 ft.~ AGL, the engine began to run extremely rough. I was forced into a controlled descent. I began emergency and investigative procedures. After switching the fuel tank selector , applying carburetor heat, enriching and leaning the fuel mixture, switching the auxiliary fuel pump on and off, and advancing/retarding the throttle, the engine only ran progressively worse in all settings. I pressed the nrst button on my handheld GPS and headed towards Beaufort. I had just enough time to make a mayday call without any response, before the engine quite completely. I estimate the total engine failure at 500 ft. AGL. I glided over the everglade like swamps before crashing into a small tributary stream.

I PRESSED THE NRST BUTTON ON MY HANDHELD GPS AND HEADED TOWARDS BEAUFORT. I HAD JUST ENOUGH TIME TO MAKE A MAYDAY CALL WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE, BEFORE THE ENGINE QUITE COMPLETELY.
