From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot took off runway 7 left, climbing through 300 feet, the pilot noticed #1 engine side door came open and started to flap. The pilot slowed the aircraft to lessen the flapping, started turning right to return for landing. The panel departed the aircraft during the right turn/downwind over an unpopulated area. The aircraft landed normally. Post-flight inspection revealed minor damage to the wing and left horizontal stabilizer. Prior to start, ramp-personnel had opened the panel to put in a heater and warm the engine. The panel was not secured when the heater was removed. The pilot failed to ensure all panels were secure prior to operation.
