From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot upon landing approach was normal and aligned with the centerline upon touchdown. Aircraft experienced significant vibration from the nose gear area. The pilot maintained directional control as long as possible and aircraft drifted to a stop in the grass. No damage occurred.

From a witness' perspective, "when the nose gear touched it was shaking (shimmy) in a strong rhythmic oscillation. I was able to both see the wheel shaking and also hear the tire chirping as it was moving side to side."

Records reviewed and aircraft showed current prior to flight.

During nosewheel bushing receded causing it to be loose thus the shimmy. Fix was to retorque nut on the bottom to 11 pounds.
