The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On 02/24/2026 at 1813 local, privacy data omitted an A321 operating from cancun international airport (mmun/cun) to Boston Logan international airport (bos), struck the jet bridge with the left wing while being marshalled into gate E2. The flight, scheduled to park at gate E1, was reassigned gate E2. Taxiing to the gate area, the flight crew, noting taxiway lines from A1 through the gate area were obscured by snow and ice, stopped prior to gate E2. Flight crew informed ops snow removal vehicles were blocking gate entry and inquired about the unusual (jackknifed) E2 jet bridge position. Flight crew was informed they were having trouble with the jet bridge, couldn’t move it, and massport was on the way. Flight crew requested gate E1 due to the broken jet bridge but were denied. Flight crew then requested personnel to marshal in the aircraft. Gate E2 is not designated by privacy data omitted as requiring wing walkers. After the vehicles were removed and under the direction of a marshaller and two wing walkers, the flight crew started taxi to E2. The solid taxi-in line became visible and the flight crew noted the marshaller kept the aircraft on it all the way to stop, all three marshallers indicating by their wands the aircraft was clear to continue. The captain particularly monitored the marshaller on the left due to the unusual position of the jet bridge. When the front of the angled jet bridge blocked view of the wing tip and left wing marshaller, the captain shifted focus forward, relying on guidance from the front marshaller. The aircraft came to a near stop 5-10 feet short of the desired stopping point. The privacy data omitted airport briefing guide cautions gate E2 has uneven pavement due to a fuel pit near the right main landing gear sloped higher than the surrounding area. The marshaller waved the wands more aggressively to get the aircraft to move forward. The captain added power slightly, crawling forward to the eventual stop as signaled by the controlling marshaller. The flight crew completed a normal engine shutdown. After discussion with ops, the crew were notified that the left wing appeared to have contacted the jet bridge. Crash/fire/rescue (CFR) responded. CFR and maintenance checked the aircraft, deeming it safe to tow. The customers and flight attendants were reseated, and the aircraft repositioned to gate E1. A logbook entry was made regarding potential damage to the left wing.
Ground operations reported that prior to privacy data omitted arrival, ground operations team requested snow removal equipment be moved from C6, privacy data omitted internal designation for gate E2 to allow for the arrival. As the snow removal equipment was being moved, privacy data omitted arrived and held short. Go team then suggested a gate change to E1 which was denied. Blue chief marshaller was aware the jet bridge was out of position and airport operations (ao) needed to move the jet bridge but resumed marshaling after the aircraft flashed its taxi lights. As the aircraft approached, the left side wing walker noticed the aircraft too close to the jet bridge and tried unsuccessfully to stop the marshaller both verbally and with hand signals. The left wing entered the jet bridge cab, contacting the retracted canopy with the leading edge, inboard of the left winglet. After emergency personnel arrived, the jet bridge was retracted, and the aircraft towed to E1 for deplaning and tech ops inspection. The aircraft and jet bridge were both taken out of service. There were no injuries reported.
Aircraft repairs involved replacing the #5 slat per the amm and blending a gouge on left wing near panel 550CB (within limits). Total time out of service was 75 hours and 44 minutes. Damage to the aircraft privacy data omitted was non-substantial, within structural repair per the structural repair manual (srm). privacy data omitted Is conducting an investigation, corrective actions to be taken. No regulations were violated. No further investigation warranted. This office considers the matter closed.
As the FAA filed it
ON 02/24/2026 AT 1813 LOCAL, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AN A321 OPERATING FROM CANCUN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MMUN/CUN) TO BOSTON LOGAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BOS), STRUCK THE JET BRIDGE WITH THE LEFT WING WHILE BEING MARSHALLED INTO GATE E2. GATE E2 IS NOT DESIGNATED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AS REQUIRING WING WALKERS. THE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AIRPORT BRIEFING GUIDE CAUTIONS GATE E2 HAS UNEVEN PAVEMENT DUE TO A FUEL PIT NEAR THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR SLOPED HIGHER THAN THE SURROUNDING AREA.
GROUND OPERATIONS REPORTED THAT PRIOR TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ARRIVAL, GROUND OPERATIONS TEAM REQUESTED SNOW REMOVAL EQUIPMENT BE MOVED FROM C6, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ INTERNAL DESIGNATION FOR GATE E2 TO ALLOW FOR THE ARRIVAL. AS THE SNOW REMOVAL EQUIPMENT WAS BEING MOVED, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ARRIVED AND HELD SHORT.
DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS NON-SUBSTANTIAL, WITHIN STRUCTURAL REPAIR PER THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL (SRM). ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IS CONDUCTING AN INVESTIGATION, CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN. NO REGULATIONS WERE VIOLATED. NO FURTHER INVESTIGATION WARRANTED. THIS OFFICE CONSIDERS THE MATTER CLOSED.
