From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The intended flight was from kpdc to kmvn. Approximately one hour into the flight at 5000' the occupants heard a power loss. Carburator heat and mixture set to full rich did not increase power, the engine continued to die down. The aircraft was set for best glide and engine restarts were attempted. Restarts failed and a field was chosen for landing. The pilot landed the aircraft safely and without damage. No injuries to any occupants. Engine tear down revealed that a failed #2 exhaust valve retainer ring released the exhaust valve into the cylinder.
