The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The incident took place on July 5, 2026 approximately 0900 UTC, on privacy data omitted a B-747-446 freighter aircraft operated by western global airlines (9WGA). The flight was operating from rksi (icn) incheon south korea to panc (anc) Anchorage, AK usa. During this flight one of the 4 assigned flight crewmembers became sick, and a medical emergency was recorded. The aircraft location out over the northern pacific gave limited diversion possibilities therefore the aircraft continued to panc and was given priority handling by FAA air traffic control. The crewmember was removed from flight duties by the captain (pilot-in-command) of the flight. The pilot that had the medical emergency was operating as the first officer until removed from duty by the PIC. The first officer pilot that was removed from crew duties was wade joseph fullingim, FAA ATP certificate number privacy data omitted.
The following outlines the events that took place during the flight causing the medical emergency:
• After transferring aircraft control, the crewmember heated and began eating a beef meal (crew meal – supplied) selected because of a known seafood allergy.
• The meal appeared to contain beef, vegetables, and scalloped potatoes; however, small seafood pieces were mixed in with the potatoes and were not initially noticed.
• After approximately three to four bites, the crewmember unknowingly bit into seafood, recognized it by taste and texture, and immediately spit it out.
• Soon afterward, the crewmember experienced tingling in the tongue and mouth and rinsed the mouth with water.
• The crewmember self-administered benadryl carried in the flight bag due to the known allergy and prior medical training.
• The captain was awakened and informed of the allergic reaction, medication taken, and resulting fitness-for-duty concern.
• The captain advised the company thru acars about the situation. Dispatch replied and stated medlink would be contacting the aircraft via sat phone. The medlink dr, was advised we were continuing to panc due to our position over water and that the first officer was resting and we were checking on him.
• The captain requested priority handling, and they were given basically direct routing to panc.
• The crew agreed the affected crewmember was not fit for duty and determined that continuing to panc was the safest and most practical operational and medical option.
• The crewmember vomited, observed medication in the vomit, took additional benadryl, and then rested in the back of the aircraft while the crew periodically checked on the crewmember.
• Upon landing, EMS met the aircraft and transported the crewmember to the hospital.
• The crewmember remained in the emergency room until approximately 0330 the next day, received medication, had blood work performed, and was monitored.
• Prescriptions were issued, and medical personnel advised waiting 24 hours before returning to work in case of another reaction.
