From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot of an experimental amateur-built airplane encountered a crosswind gust of air during take-off runway 340 from De Quincy Industrial Airpark (5R8) in De Quincy, LA. The pilot stated he began take-off roll and gained enough speed to lift the tail wheel off the ground. The pilot said a large gust of wind lifted the windward wing (right wing) and the front landing gear off the ground, about 10-15 feet in the air, and into a left angle of bank. The pilot said he throttled up and used right full rudder to correct his heading but lost lift due to the left angle of bank. The aircraft then veered left, landed hard in the grass, resulting in a LH main landing gear collapse with amphibious hull fuselage damage at 1500CST/2000Z.
