Factual narrative
On April 21, 2015, a Shaheen Air International (SAI) Boeing 737-400, powered by CFMI CFM56-3C1 turbofan engines, experienced a No. 1 (left engine) failure while climbing through 3,200 feet. The flight crew heard a loud band and high exhaust gas temperature was observed for the No. 1 engine. The engine was shutdown and the airplane was turned back for a successful single engine landing at the Islamabad International Airport (OPRN). The investigation is being conducted by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA). The NTSB is participating as the US Accredited Representative as the state of manufacturer for the engines. The PCAA can be contacted at psib@caapakistan.com.pk or by phone at (92) 21 9924 2772.
