Introduction

This revision corrects a word in the “reference documentation” paragraph. The word should be “pinion”, instead of “ strut”. All other information remains the same.

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin alerts you, owners and operators of Schweizer Aircraft Corporation, Model 269 series rotorcraft, that Schweizer Aircraft plans to release a revised version of the Model 269C Maintenance Instructions (HMI) Appendix C, with some revisions to the inspection procedures for the part number 269A5103 Main Rotor Transmission Pinion.

Reference Documentation

The following references provide guidance regarding pinion inspection:

• Schweizer Helicopter Maintenance Instructions (HMI) Appendix C, for the different variants of the Model 269 Series as listed below:

Model Published 269A, A-1, B, and C September 13, 2005 269C serial number 1809 and subsequent September 13, 2005 269C-1 September 12, 2005 269D September 13, 2005 269D Configuration A September 13, 2005

Background

We have received reports that operators are having difficulty following current procedures.

The revised HMI incorporates revisions to the inspection procedures for part number 269A5103. These revisions are to clarify inspection procedures in order to better detect and correct wear of the pinion.

Recommendation

We strongly recommend that you strictly adhere to the maintenance intervals specified in the HMI. Failure to do so could cause accelerated wear of the pinion, which could lead to excessive wear and premature failure of the pinion.
