AIRCRAFT WAS GROUNDED: SPOILER ALERT ON TAKEOFF CONTINUED UP TO FL17 SO DECESION WAS MADE TO RETRUN TO FIELD. EMERGENCY DECLARED AIRCRAFT LANDED OVERWEIGHT WITHOUT INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE REPLACED SPOILER REMOTE ELECTRONIC UNIT IAW AMM 27-61-22.
