What was found
(AUS) ENGINE RAN OUT OF OIL. VACUUM PUMP HAD BEEN REMOVED FOR REPLACEMENT AND PILOT TOOK THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT EITHER THE NEW VACUUM PUMP OR A COVER PLATE FITTED. THE ENGINE CONSEQUENTLY RAN OUT OF OIL.
