DURING CRUISE THE FLIGHT CREW GOT A NR 1 AHRS OVERHEAT FAIL MESSAGE ON THE EICAS. AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO IAD. MAINTENANCE INSPECTED AND REMOVED AND REPLACED THE NR 1 AHRS FAN. SYSTEM OPS CHECKED GOOD.
