United States of America Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration Supplemental Type Certificate (Continuation Sheet) Number: SA2311CE-D
FAA Form 8110-2 (5/14) Page 3 of 3 Limitations and Conditions: (continued) B. The pilot must not maneuver the airplane using information from the Traffic Display only or on a Traffic Advisory (TA) only, without visually sighting the traffic. These displays and advisories are intended only for assistance in visually locating the traffic and lack the resolution necessary for use in evasive maneuvering.
C. Compliance with TCAS RA is not permitted unless the intruder has been visually acquired. If the pilot-in-command has visually located the other aircraft, he may elect to follow (within approximately 5 seconds) or not follow the RA for maneuvering to maintain safe operation. However, maneuvers which are in the opposite direction of the RA are prohibited unless they are the only means to assure safe separation.
D. If the pilot does not promptly follow the RA or the traffic maneuvers such as to thwart the RA, TCAS will announce “ADVISORY INVALID”. In this case the pilot must promptly return to his previous clearance unless he has better information about the traffic, has located the other aircraft, and can maneuver to maintain safe separation.
E. When TCAS voice message, “ADVI SORY CLEAR” is announced, the pilot must promptly return to the previous ATC clearance. To avoid a secondary RA, if in level flight, return to assigned altitude at a rate of 500 ft/min or less. If climbing or descending, delay re-establishing the original climb or descent rate until the intruder has passed by.
F. If ATC requires that the trans ponder altitude reporting be disabled, TCAS must be turned off.
G. The use of TA only is limited as shown in Section 3 of the Airplane Flight Manual Supplement.
H. TCAS can only be used when t he aircraft is crewed by a Bendix/King crew.
These limitations are being imposed because the system as installed in this airplane:
(1) Is configured with an integrat ed Traffic Advisory/Resolution Advisory IVSI (TA/IVSI) at the copilot station only.
(2) Exceeds the allowable Altimetry Performance Requirements sp ecified in Appendix A of the Minimum Operational Performance Standards for Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Airborne Equipment Document No.
RTCA/DO-185 dated September 1983 and:
(3) Provides the following chan ges at 1582 feet AGL rather than 700 feet AGL;
- “DESCENT” RA’s are inhibited below 1582 feet AGL regardless o f airplane configuration.
- Only TA’s are provided below 1582 feet AGL with landing gear down or flaps not up.
I. This approval will expire upon FAA’s issuance of a requireme nt to use Change 6 of RTCA DO-185 unless the installation is revised as noted below:
(1) The equipment is updated and r e-certified using Change 6 criteria; or
(2) The data link transmissions from the Mode S transponder are not radiated into space.
J. Operation of the CAS-80A TCAS with preliminary MOPS Change 6 software installed is approved with the following additional limitations:
(1) Installation and operation of the CAS 80A TCAS with a preliminary MOPS Change 6 configuration (identified as TCAS Processor Software code 1P, Unit Mod 12, Mode S Transponder Software code 1E, Unit Mod 4, Symbol Generator Software code 3D, Unit Mod 26) is only approved between the dated of 4-21-89 and 6-30-89, inclusive.
(2) When operating the airplane with the TCAS configuration described in (1) above, the flight crew must notify ATC that their equipment is incompatible with MOPS Change 5 equipped airplanes. The flight crew must coordinate their flight(s) to assure that adequate airspace separation is maintained between these two incompatible systems such that no interference in normal operation occurs.
