FAA approved airplane flight manual supplement, “IFF Transponder,” dated July 22, 2020, or later approved FAA (ODA) revision, is required.

Instructions for continued airworthiness, “Installation of the IFF Mode 5 System,” M09652, dated June 17, 2020, or later accepted FAA (AEG) revision, is a required part of this modification.

FAA certification of this installation was limited to the performance requirements for Extended Squitter ADS-B OUT equipment operating on the 1090 MHz RF as defined in 14 CFR §91.227 following the guidance for installation and airworthiness approval in AC 20-165B, and evaluation of the equipment’s effects on the safe operation of the aircraft.

FAA certification of this installation was limited to IFF modes 1 & 2 performance requirements for civil functions only. FAA does not endorse the operation and effectiveness of the military functions of the IFF Mode 5 system.

In addition, the IFF Mode 5 System also requires approval of the operation of military functions by the DoD AIMS Office. The KIV-77 crypto unit which contains a lithium manganese dioxide battery is not part of the FAA certification/airworthiness approvals related to this STC, so installation of the KIV-77 crypto unit is not FAA approved for civilian operational purposes.
