From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: student departed wiley post airport in Oklahoma city, OK, on a student cross-country training flight. After departing stillwater, darkness ensued, and he became disoriented in airspace. Flying toward the lighted area, he arrived at the Tulsa airport. The aircraft radio was tuned to okc approach control so he had no communication with the Tulsa airport. The aircraft landed hard on the right landing gear and the strut broke. The aircraft came to rest at the runway edge. The runway was closed for 1 hour and 46 minutes until a recovery crew could move the aircraft. Student has since received additional training. This incident is closed.
