From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on March 16, 1995, Piper PA-34-200T, N8328V, registered to laufer trucking, inc., hartford, Wisconsin, and operated by Mr. Alan a. laufer, departed hartford municipal airport (hxf) on a personal flight with one passenger on board and VMC existing. During an approach to the west bend municipal airport Mr. Laufer stated that when he selected the landing gear down there was no down & locked indication for the right main gear; the left main and nose being normal. After five (5) attempts to get a positive indication for the right main by cycling the landing gear up and down, Mr. Laufer accomplished a gear up landing on rwy 9, Wittman field, Oshkosh, WI. During the landing approach the right engine was shut down first followed by the left engine on the final approach. By use of the starters each propeller was positioned horizontally with the aircraft sustaining minor damage upon landing. Inspection of the landing gear retraction system at a local FBO revealed the squat switch on the right, main gear strut mechanism was loose in its mounting which resulted in a false (lack of) gear down and locked indication in the cockpit. Landing gear was rigged per the manufacturers instructions and functionally checked. An FAA form 8010-4, malfunction or defect report, to be submitted by mechanic. This incident is considered closed.
