From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: this oil cooler is part of a certified engine installation in a Cessna 172M. During cruise flight, the oil cooler ruptured in the area of the output side of the end tank between the welded seams on the cooler. This caused a rapid loss of engine oil and eventual engine failure. During cruise flight from saginaw, MI to pontiac, MI while passing within 5 miles from Flint, MI airport, the pilot noticed a loss of oil pressure. The engine started knocking and an emergency was declared with the Flint tower. While inbound to Flint on a 2 mile final, the engine quit. A landing was made on the airport without further incident.
