From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on October 31, 1995, a cargo CE-207 operated by southcentral air experienced engine difficulties on approach to the Anchorage International Airport. The pilot declared an emergency and landed successfully with no injury to the pilot. The IFR flight departed kenai, AK about 1815 local, and on approach to the Anchorage International, the pilot reported hearing an explosion in the engine compartment. This was followed by smoke in the cockpit. The pilot was able to evacuate some of the smoke by opening the cabin doors and briefly pulling the mixture. The pilot landed on runway 6 left and cleared the runway at about 1857. The aircraft was towed to the parking area. Examination of the engine on November 2, 1995 revealed the #L6 cylinder separated from the block by shearing the cylinder hold-down studs. The connecting rod broke in the back stroke when the piston struck the stubs of the broken hold-down studs. The upper forward cowling sustained some damage during cylinder separation.
