From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: the modified engine in this home built aircraft and its systems were checked and no discrepancies were found except about 1" of water was found in the fuel gascolator. No other water was found in the fuel system. The pilot stated that the engine surged several times and then lost enough power that he could not maintain altitude. He selected a plowed farm field and landed. The left main and nose landing gears were broken off. And both wing tips were damaged. There was no injuries nor property damage.
