From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: the pilot was departing Lewisburg, WV (lwb) VFR for clarksburg, WV (ckb) when during the take-off roll the engine began to surge and would not produce full power. The pilot elected to continue the takeoff when the engine failed. The pilot put the aircraft into a field about 1/4 mile from the end of runway 22. The aircraft sustained minor damage to the left wing and horizontal stabilizer. Also, the left main and nose gear were torn loose. Post incident investigation found that the oil cooler broke open during initial engine start and the engine oil was lost. This loss of oil caused the engine to seize.
