What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On takeoff from grass strip, tall gras impeded acceleration, ran out of runway, landing gear was sheared. (-23) on may 10, 1996, at approximately 0835 CDT, a Grumman, model G-164-B aircraft, N6832K, operated by o'brien flying service, inc., under title 14 CFR part 137, failed to reach takeoff speed (due to tall, wet grass) during an attempted takeoff from an agricultural strip near Iowa, Louisiana. The grass was approximately 30 inches high and was wet weth medium dew. The left landing gear collided with a fence pole, causing the aircraft to go through the fence, over a berm, and into a rice field. The instrument-rated pilot was not injured and the airplane received substantial damage. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local aerial application flight and a flight plan was not filed.
