What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-16) On 06/20/96, N9970P, Piper PA-36, departed Hazelton municipal airport enroute for local spraying operation. Pilot started at 60 mph on take-off roll, aircraft seemed slow, not developing power. Pilot executed take-off and subsequently crashed in field approximately one-quarter mile from the runway. No injury to pilot, but the aircraft was substantially damaged, I.e., MLG separation from aircraft, (entire assembly - causing longeron damage), engine firewall compromised, leading edge wing damage, etc. NTSB investigation still pending. Engine teardown a possibility.
