From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on 7/12/96, kittyhawk flight KHA587 was enroute from yip to okc, when the crew diverted to cou due to smoke in the cockpit. Warning lights illuminated for the FDR and the GPWS, about ten seconds later the crew noted smoke in the cockpit. The crew declared an emergency and made an uneventful landing in Columbia, MO. Maintenance discovered a bad #1 inverter and a bad current limiter. Both items were removed and replaced and the aircraft was returned to service. The #1 inverter caused an interruption in electrical power, which led the crew to believe there was a hydraulic system failure on the aircraft. There was no hydraulic system failure on the aircraft. This incident is considered closed. CE961CM0098
