From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-16) Pilot with 1 passenger departed gve airport. Aircraft had been topped off with fuel prior to departure. Approx. 1 hour into the flight while cruising at an altitude of 3500 feet northeast of fdk, engine lost power and stopped. Pilot force landed aircraft in a cornfield near union bridge, Maryland. Engine was visually inspected and a post accident engine run-up was performed. Upon completion, found engine would only stay running when mixture control was in an excessively lean position. Suspect a fuel metering problem. Amended 8020-16 will be completed pending bench test and inspection of engine fuel system carburetor, and a review of the results.
