From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: pilot and passenger departed half moon bay, CA on a pleasure flight destined to grass valley, CA. When in the vicinity of the Sacramento area the pilot reported that without any warning or indication the engine began running rough. He requested clearance to land at Sacramento (smf). Landing was uneventful. Preliminary inspection revealed the number 1 cyl had no compression. Pilot/owner hired a mechanic to do thorough analysis. While at the aircraft with the mechanic we detected that the number 1 cylinder was cracked nearly half was around the circumference of the cyl barrel. There was no other abnormalities noted. According to the owner, the engine was overhauled about 360 hours ago. Also discussion with the owner revealed he has noted higher than normal engine temperatures although not exceeding any limits. This can be attributed to the very high ambient temperatures while operating the aircraft.
