The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Rotated too quickly, became mushy, veered to right on takeoff, struck ground on its belly, slid across road. (-23) see attached Amarillo-Tradewind Airport layout. (.19) on September 6, 1996, at 1215 central daylight time, a poland mig 17, N1719, operated by a private owner under title 14 CFR part 91, impacted a fence and terrain during takeoff from Tradewind Airport at Amarillo, Texas. The commercial pilot received serious injuries and the airplane was destroyed by a post impact fire. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the planned cross-country flight to sherman, Texas, and a VFR flight plan was filed. According to witnesses at the airport, drop tanks were installed on the airplane, and the drop tanks and airplane tanks were full of fuel. This was reported to be the pilot's first flight with full drop tanks installed. During the takeoff on runway 17, the airplane was rotated at an estimated airspeed of 80 mph and the tail contacted the runway. The airplane became airborne, then impacted the ground, and bounced to a stop approximately 199 yards beyond the departure end of the runway.
