From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: N7KL departed Richlands, VA airport (6VE) on an instrument flight plan with akron, Ohio, as the destination and four (4) people onboard. IMC prevailed at the time and only the right front seat occupant held an instrument rating and was acting as safety pilot while the controls were being operated by the occupant of the left front seat. Shortly after lift off, the aircraft struck trees at the left side of the runway but managed to keep flying and continue to climb into VFR weather conditions. The aircraft continued on course until the pilot reported a vibration and decided to make a precautionary landing at beckley, WV (bkw) and check for damage. Inspection of the aircraft revealed that it had sustained damage to the left wing tip and small dents to the leading edge of the left wing and stabilator. Paint was missing from the front of the engine cowling and the fiberglass was broken in two places. The aircraft remained at bkw pending repairs. Submission of this report closes this incident.
