From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: Mr. Phelps, a student pilot, was on his second solo cross-country, flying from kamp airport to Watertown. On arrival he called UNICOM but received no response. However, he was advised by wheeler-sack radar that runway 25 had been active at art. On final approach he experienced gusting left crosswinds. Approaching touchdown the wind picked up the left wing and caused the airplane to balloon. The pilot made corrections to straighten the airplane, but nosed down before complete recovery could be made. The nose wheel struck the runway, bending the propellor and nose wheel strut, and caused some damage to the firewall. The pilot was not injured. This investigation is complete and this incident is closed.
