From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: aircraft N959R, a Douglas DC-8B-73, was pushed back by jeannine dion, a U.S. Airports employee, in preparation for departure from the U.S. Airports ramp. The ramp is a non movement area. The ramp was dark and snow banks restricted clearance for over hanging engines. N959R had been parked 90 degrees to N869BX, a Douglas DC-8-73, operated by burlington air freight. Ms. Dion marshalled the aircraft forward. The captain of N959R, Mr. Melvin t. graves, started a right turn onto taxi way uniform. The elevator of 959R came in contact with the elevator of N869BX. Captain graves stated that Ms. Dion directed him to start his right turn onto taxiway uniform, and as he proceeded through the turn both control columns moved as if a blast of air had hit the elevators. Ronald hendrix, employed by airborne express, who had witnessed the incident, took over the marshalling wands and stopped the aircraft from proceeding any further.
