From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on 01-03-97, at 08:45 local, N37SF, a Beechcraft model 58 on a part 135 flight from pennyan, NY to lew, with five passengers, received clearance by pwm approach to the ILS runway 4 to lew and advised to change frequencies. CTAF was contacted with intentions and position. At 800' MSL, aircraft broke out of the overcast, spotted the runway and proceeded visually. At approximately 1200' down the runway, the nose wheel struck a runway sign and sheared off. The nose of the aircraft collapsed and the propellers (at idle) struck the ground. The aircraft traveled straight ahead for another 200' and came to rest about midfield and six (6) feet off the edge of the runway. There were no injuries. FAA inspection of aircraft at lew on 01-04-97, found the nose wheel sheared off, nose gear retraction rods broken, minor damage to the nose wheel housing fairing, nose cone and a small area of the belly skin. Considerable damage to the left engine cowling, left propeller spinner, both propeller tips (curled) and the right flap.
