From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on January 3, 1997, at 1337 EDT, a Boeing B727-2B7, N760AT registered to first security bank of Utah, and operated by American trans air, inc., departed from Indianapolis International Airport, Indianapolis, Indiana (ind) to fort lauderdale airport, fort lauderdale, Florida (fll). Maintenance personnel found the hydraulic system "b" pump leaking. The unit was replaced per instructions in the maintenance manual and no leaks were noted during the test. The number four (4) flight spoiler was detected with a leak and the actuator was also replaced. The hydraulic system was serviced to full capacity, no leaks noted. This incident is considered closed.
