From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft struck tree tops on approach, applied power and pulled nose up before landing. (-23) after executing a missed approach to runway 26 at south point, Ohio (htw), the pilot entered a downwind leg for runway 08. Just after initiating a base leg, the pilot lost sight of the runway and the aircraft landing light illuminated a row of trees. The pilot added power, closed off the carburetor heat and put the aircraft in a climb. The aircraft contacted the trees and continued through them. The pilot then regained visual contact with the runway and continued his approach and landed without further incident. The leading edge of both wings were substantially damaged. The propeller spinner was damaged as were the engine exhause pipe and lower right hand engine cowling. Both wing lift struts, both landing gear struts, and the forward lower part of the vertical stabilizer sustained minor dents and damage.
