From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on June 19, 1997, Mr. Twohy, holder of private pilot certificate no. 472582364, departed king salmon, AK on a VFR flight plan to anchorage/merrill field. While enroute, he experienced low oil pressure indications and radio failure. Because of the low oil pressure, he proceeded direct to Kenai, AK. While descending, the engine quit completely. And he landed on the nearest runway at the Kenai airport against the flow of traffic. Due to the radio problems, he was unable to declare an emergency or indicate his landing intentions. No violations noted. Medical was current and bfr completed in may 1997. Engine failure thought to be due to low fuel level in tank selected.
