What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Narrative: during climb after lift-off, 1/4 mile downwind, a fire developed, 6 to 8 inch flames located outside of the burner, where the fitting joins the outside of the burner. Mr. Fear shut off the tank, let the propane bleed from the burner and visually inspected it for damage, I.e. cracks etc., he saw nothing. Retightened all fittings again then repressurized the system and relit burner. Fire did not occur. The burner operated normally. The instructor pilot landed the balloon as soon as practical, during a controlled descent and landing without damage or injury. This investigation closed, no action.
