From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on July 24, 1997, Piper PA-31-P, N573B piloted by david leland salinger, cert #546278304 (with airplane multiengine land rating) landed at north Las Vegas airport (vgt) on runway 7. According to Mr. Salinger's account, the aircraft touched down at approximately 80-85 knots. Pilot reported that when he hit the brakes they went to the floor. He proceeded to pump the brakes and noted he had very slight braking action to the right brake only, he steered toward the center of the runway, and pulled the mixture to idle cutoff. The right propeller hit one of the runway taxi lights (one blade minor damage) before running off the end of the runway into a ditch which slowed the aircraft to a stop. Only damage apparent was to the one blade of the propeller. Pilot could find no apparent leaking of fluid from brake lines. Aircraft was towed to a hangar on the field where a mechanic from r and m aircraft specialties inc., confirmed the reservoir level was good. Mechanic also confirmed brakes were inoperative. Mechanic also stated that when he "worked" the parking brake he was able to get some pressure to the brakes. A malfunction or defect report will be submitted by the me chanic from r and m aircraft specialist. No NMAC or pilot deviation occurred this file is closed no further action is required.
