From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Performing pattern work, on departure appeared to stall, went down in residential area. (-23) on 08/08/97 at approximately 1500 hours, ivan ljutek a CFI and ritesh kumar a student were practicing x wind tols on runway 33 Herbert Smart Downtown Airport. On their second landing the student allowed the airplane to approach the runway high. When approximately 6 to 8 feet above the runway the flight instructor feeling that insufficient runway existed for a safe landing took control of the airplane and started a go around. With the airplane past the departure end of the runway, but still below the tree line, the instructor pulled back on the controls causing the airplane to stall and crash into a residential area.
