From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: 1. On 08/18/97 at 1330Z time, a Piper PA-32R-301T aircraft (N84KA) departed Springfield-branson regional (sgf) airport, Missouri en route to west houston (iws) airport, Texas. On take-off from runway 2 at sgf, the pilot, louis lawrenz, noted an unsafe gear light indication on climb. Mr. Lawrenz proceeded to notify sgf tower of the situation and conducted a fly-by the tower to verify (that after performing the emergency procedures) the landing gear was down. The tower stated that all gear appeared to be down. 2. Landing on runway 2 the nose gear collapsed. The pilot landed the aircraft without causing injury to himself or his sole passenger and with minor damage to the aircraft. 3. On examination, mechanic david will, of aviation enterprises, discovered that landing gear pump had failed. Aircraft records revealed that airworthiness directive 93-05-10 for the nose gear was not applicable due to the installation of kit part number 766-252. The landing gear over ride lever was set to remove the safety system out of the circuit. 4. This incident investigation was coordinated with general aviation operations. A malfunction or defect report (FAA form 8010-4) has been submitted. 5. This incident number CE97-IGA0101 is closed.
