From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on September 29,1997, a Beechcraft model BE65-90 was on a local training flight. On approach to land, the landing gear was extended, when the pilot noted the right main gear down light failed to illuminate, and an unsave gear light and warning horn were observed. The landing gear was cycled with the same results. An emergency gear extension was executed also with the same result. A fly by confirmed the right gear was not down and locked. However, it was extended approximately 80% of its normal travel. Pilot elected to land with gear extended. Upon touch down, the right gear collapsed resulting in damage to the right propeller and RH flaps. Minimal damage was observed in the wheel well area as a result of the gear acutator being forced from its mount. On inspection of the gear system, it was noted the right gear torque shaft had disconnected at the gear box coupler. The attaching hardware (an 3 bolt) and nut were not located during the initial investigation, however, a more extensive search is scheduled. On October 21, 1997, I conducted a search for the missing an 3 bolt. Upon removal of the necessary components for repair. The search failed to locate the hardware or showed evidence of shearing. RH gear actuator upon removal showed normal operation. Incident closed.
